THE DEVANGAS
The Devangas community is one of the prominent producers of Kalamkari sarees apart from the Padmasalis, the Kannebhaktulus, and the Senapathalus. The community believes in self-sufficiency and hence weaves the fabric with their own hands before the process of dyeing and printing. Just like other communities, the Devangas also have their own unique style of motifs.
The Khatri community practices the art of Batik in their native state, Gujarat. Over the time the art of Batik spread across the India among other cultures and communities. Mundra and Mandvi are located in the district of Kutch, Gujarat are the main centres for the production of Batik. Batik prints created by these Kutchi artisans can also be found in most of the markets of Ahmedabad and Mumbai.
The art belongs to the Mithila region of the Indian subcontinent and therefore known as Mithila Painting also. Created using natural dyes and colors the Madhubani paintings are a sight to behold. The subjects in Madhubani paintings mostly include mythological figures, sun, moon, and many more. Also, the art is further classified into five different styles: Bharni, Kachni, Tantrik, Godna and Kohbar
