These elegant sarees witnessed growth during the reign of the Mughal Emperor Tipu Sultan in 1785 AD. It is also believed that Maharaja Krishna Raj Wadiyar IV impressed by the machine-made silk fabrics of Queen Victoria’s British royalties ordered 32 powerlooms from Switzerland which initiated the production of machine-made silk sarees in India.
